Board recommends design study, toilets and ballfield options for Coyote Ridge Park

The Castle Pines City Parks & Recreation Advisory Board voted to recommend that city council approve schematic-design work to study additional scope for Coyote Ridge Park, including options for a year‑round flush restroom near the playground and expanded ballfield and vault-toilet configurations.

Consultants from HCM recapped three optional tracks to explore at schematic design level: Option 1 — a year‑round flush restroom by the playground (including utility and lift-station implications); Options 2 and 3 — expanding the baseball field to a 300-foot foul line with dugouts, bleachers and a scoreboard and siting additional vault restrooms near the pickleball courts and ball fields. HCM presented a proposed additional design fee of $52,860 to carry those options through schematic-level design and utility due diligence.

Board members asked how many stalls would be needed, whether vault restrooms could be expanded in place (consultants said prefab vault units cannot be expanded and would require replacement), and whether the city should pursue a flush facility despite added cost and utility work. Members discussed alternatives — replacing/adding vault toilets versus pursuing a flush facility — and noted some options could require adding lift or sewer connections that raise costs.

The board voted to recommend council approve engineering/design fees to study the base scope and the optional items (base scope, baseball-field options and vault toilets). The motion passed unanimously by roll call. Staff and consultants will refine costs and return details in the council memo so council can consider funding and final scope.
