Committee forwards additional design services for Disciples Drive park; pool not included in current phase

Chair introduced Resolution 26,070 to accept an additional $136,040 in professional services for design support, construction documents and architectural services for the park located along Disciples Drive and moved the item to full council consideration.
A committee member asked whether a swimming pool could be included in phase 1 of the project. Parks staff (Speaker 10) replied that the city is working to meet grant requirements that prioritize multiuse fields, playground equipment, walking trails and pickleball courts. Staff said they continue to seek funds for a pool at this or another site but that any pool project would require separate funding; staff estimated that an amenity similar to the Parker Park pool would cost around $4,000,000.
Committee discussion emphasized the city’s limited public‑swimming capacity and the need for lifeguard development and long‑term funding. A committee member described the current condition as "a crisis" for public swim facilities given available capacity.
A public commenter (Patty Black) asked whether any work had begun on the property; staff answered there was nothing happening on site at present. The committee voted to forward Resolution 26,070 to the full council.
