The Green City Council's Transportation Committee on March 25 reported awarding the 2025 resurfacing project to Barbrook Construction Co. Inc. The low base bid was $646,007.25 and the alternate low bid was $75,762.20, producing a combined contract value of $721,769.45, which the committee said is below the engineer's estimate of $813,000.
Separately, finance discussion noted that the state's resurfacing of State Route 241 (Maslin Road) now carries a total cost of $619,944, higher than the administration's prior budgeted $460,000. The committee recommended allocating $185,000 from the street construction fund to bridge the gap so the city can make the upfront payment the Ohio Department of Transportation requires; resurfacing is slated to begin in July.
The committee presented a map of the local streets included in the resurfacing program and said the work will allow the city's crew to perform in-house final resurfacing after the contractor completes base repairs. Council granted time on the related ordinance (R08) and will consider the allocation and contract approvals at a subsequent meeting.
No final vote on Maslin Road funding was taken at the full council meeting; the committee indicated it expects to be in a position to make the payment after the next council meeting.
