The committee voted unanimously on Feb. 5 to adopt an America’s 250th master plan provided by the chamber and confirmed several anchor dates for 2026 events.
The chair said she had reviewed the master plan since it was first presented on Jan. 12 and described the chamber’s document as a practical roadmap that would save the committee time. A committee member moved to accept the plan, the motion was seconded, and members voted to adopt it without opposition.
During brief clarifying exchanges a council member asked when the document had been developed; the chair replied it was developed by the chamber about a week before the committee received it and had been under review since the Jan. 12 presentation.
The committee also confirmed key anchor dates: a kickoff flag-raising is set for March 27, fireworks are scheduled for June 27 and the countywide parade is scheduled for July 4. A member moved to accept those anchor dates, the motion was seconded and the committee approved them by voice vote.
Separately, a committee member reported follow-up programming with the Amistad organization: the Amistad education director and committee volunteers have committed to a visit during the first week of October, with a week of events and coordination with the school system, including a middle passage commemoration.
The chair said she will share additional materials and redlined notes at the next meeting so members can review the master plan and associated marketing and programming in more detail.
