Wheatland council approves end-of-year transfers, FY2026 wage schedule and routine consent items

Mayor Pro-tem Stankee called the Wheatland City Council to order on July 14 and the council approved its consent agenda, which included minutes, the clerk’s financial report and two tobacco licenses, by motion of Council Member Hicks with a second from Council Member Grau. The motion carried with all ayes among members present; Council Member Houzenga was absent.

The council approved Resolution 2026-01 authorizing end-of-year transfers to savings (motion by Council Member Hicks; second by Council Member Fauser) and Resolution 2026-02 establishing wages for fiscal year 2026 (motion by Council Member Fauser; second by Council Member Grau). Both measures passed with unanimous affirmative votes from members in attendance.

The clerk reported June revenues of $41,823.58 and June expenses totaling $260,880.37. The council reviewed payable line items including Maguire Iron for $88,390.00 and LL Pelling for $33,034.40.

During public comment, resident Mike Snowbarger asked the council to contact the owner of a tree adjacent to his daughter’s property about removal; the council said it would contact the owner and consult the city attorney. Resident Darren Kelly requested that Public Works grade the alley by his driveway to reduce erosion; Public Works indicated it would review options.

The council also approved a sewer-billing credit for a car wash after owner Ben Knoche said equipment malfunction caused water to run onto adjacent grass rather than into the sanitary sewer. Council Member Hicks moved to approve the credit, Council Member Grau seconded, and the motion passed with all ayes.

The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m. after a motion by Council Member Hicks and a second by Council Member Grau.
