Harrison Streetscape moves into final phase; phase 6 began July 6 with mid‑September target

The Hollywood CRA received a construction progress update on July 7 for the Harrison Street Streetscape project. Francisco Diaz, senior project manager with the CRA, said work began in September 2025 and that Burkhart Construction began phase 6 on July 6.

Nick, project manager for Burkhart Construction, said phases 1 through 5 are substantially complete and open to the public, and that phase 6—focused on the north side of the 2000 block between 20th and 21st—will include the final streetscape improvements, followed by roadway milling, resurfacing, crosswalk reconstruction and final pavement markings. Burkhart estimated phase 6 construction would last roughly two and a half months, with final contract completion expected in late October.

Completed improvements highlighted in the presentation include a parklet outside the Hoshi and Sushi Thai Cuisine, decorative lighting, new tree plantings, security bollards and extended sidewalk areas to support outdoor seating. Burkhart said the contractor maintains continuous pedestrian access to businesses during construction and holds regular outreach meetings with merchants.

Board members asked for a targeted completion date and noted concerns about crosswalk potholes and flickering lights on several blocks; Burkhart and staff agreed to follow up with schedule details and to coordinate final roadway work to minimize disruption during the peak season. The board thanked staff and the contractor for progress and coordination with businesses.

The CRA also noted an informational update that the city’s mosaic artist has begun installing a new 'The Love' mosaic mural on the band shell facing the beach.

What happens next Phase 6 work will continue through the late summer with subsequent milling and resurfacing work scheduled under the contract; staff will provide targeted schedule updates and continue business outreach during construction.
