Property owner asks Wheatland council to vacate alley; neighbor objects over access

At its Jan. 13 meeting, Wheatland resident Will Brewster asked the City Council to vacate the alley between his property and his neighbor’s, saying he has maintained the alley for more than 10 years. Neighbor Darren Kelly objected, saying that if the alley is vacated he would lose access to his rear fence gate.
Council members noted that, under the process the city follows for vacating public right-of-way, the council will not proceed unless all affected property owners provide written approval. The council did not vote on the vacation request during the meeting.
Mayor Jeremiah Wiese and council members clarified that a unanimous or otherwise documented agreement among affected property owners is required before the city will begin formal vacation procedures. No deadlines or further steps were set on the record.
