Commission approves two RM Keating leases, accepts minutes and hears staff updates

On item 8.2, staff presented an affirmative G S 8-24 report for Coughlin Service Corp to occupy an additional 4,700 square feet at 180 Johnson Street, bringing the company's total first-floor presence to about 12,200 square feet. Staff said the new layout will leave some noncontiguous space across the first floor; "They're gonna be spread out, but they took the space that was available," staff said during the discussion.
On item 8.3, the commission approved a report for Macho De Barber, p.l.l.c., to occupy roughly 540 square feet on the building's second floor as a barbershop; staff noted the use will require health-department review prior to occupancy. The motions for both items were seconded and passed.
The commission also voted to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of 01/08/2025. During staff reports, Director Kazakowski previewed a RiverCOG-led Central Connecticut Loop Trail study that will enter a public comment period and announced city plans to install "Right to Middletown / right to farm" signage along roadways. Alternate Commissioner Tyler Ekstrom reported on conceptual dam designs for Pamitsha Pond and said preliminary analysis finds rebuilding the dam could be about half the cost of removal and remediation, and that grant funding may be available.
All motions recorded in the meeting (items 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, minutes and adjournment) passed; no public comments were recorded.
