The Middletown Youth Services Commission handled routine business and personnel updates at its Jan. 15 meeting, approving prior minutes, noting expiring terms and recording the resignation of principal Ray Byron.
Chair Tony led the session and opened the public portion of the meeting. Commissioners moved to approve the agenda and later approved the Nov. 20 meeting minutes; Commissioner Sanji recorded an abstention because they had not attended the November meeting. "Abstain — I wasn't there," Sanji said during the vote.
Chair Tony reported that Principal Ray Byron has resigned and said the commission will pause any work that requires the principal's input until staff (Henry) can provide an update at a future meeting. "He's going to another position," Tony said, describing the resignation and explaining that follow-up will resume when Henry can report back.
Members also checked commissioner appointment schedules and noted several terms are expiring; the chair asked commissioners to confirm whether they wish to remain on the commission so staff can submit reappointment paperwork to the mayor and to Linda Reed before the filing cutoff. The commission set Feb. 19 as its next meeting date to review the barber-voucher worksheet and receive updates on personnel matters.
Late in the meeting, Councilman Darnell Ford joined and apologized for his tardiness, saying he had come from another meeting. The chair said staff would forward the meeting minutes and a summary to Councilman Ford to help him catch up before the next session.
The commission adjourned after members approved a motion to end the meeting. The chair thanked members and reminded them of assignments to prepare the worksheet and related materials before the Feb. 19 meeting.
