Council delays final action on policing contract amendment to add Flock Safety cameras

The Green City Council on June 23 granted additional time on a proposed second amendment to the policing contract that would add Flock Safety automated license-plate reader cameras to the Summit County sheriff’s services provided in the city.
Public Safety and Finance committee discussions and an executive session preceded the item’s second reading. Committee members were instructed to submit requested contract-change language to the city law director (identified in the meeting as Ms. Dean). Council members were told the law director forwarded comments anonymously to the county and that Summit County officials were in discussions with Flock Safety about potential changes.
Councilman Davidis, reporting for Public Safety, said the county is actively engaged with Flock Safety about making changes the committee requested and that, as of the meeting, there were no further changes to report. The council therefore requested time for 2026-R26a to be returned at a later meeting after county-level work continues.
What happens next: the item remains on second reading and will return for further consideration after the county and Flock Safety address the items raised by committee and law director review. The council did not adopt or reject the amendment at this meeting.
