Castle Pines parks board recommends names for six trails including Valley Ridge Way and Hidden Woods

The Castle Pines Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Oct. 23 recommended that City Council adopt names for six trail segments across the city.

Board member Rivera moved — and the board seconded and approved — a package of trail-name recommendations that includes Trail 6 as Briar Oaks Path, Trail 8 as Valley Ridge Way, Trail 9 as Crooked Prairie Loop, Trail 10 as Elkridge Run, Trail 11 as Mountain View and Trail 12 as Hidden Woods.

The naming discussion included neighborhood- and feature-based options. Members debated whether to base names on nearby street names, subdivision identifiers or natural characteristics; several board members said neighborhood-based names help residents orient themselves, while others favored scenic or prairie-inspired names to reflect local character. Director Marcus Graves said the chosen names will be submitted to the city for Council consideration and incorporated into mapping and signage plans.

Board member Rivera moved the naming recommendation and Board member Olsen seconded; Deputy City Clerk Cohen recorded the unanimous vote to forward the list of names to City Council for final approval.

Graves told the board the city will manage signage and mapping updates once Council adopts the names. The board agreed the recommended names balance neighborhood recognition and descriptive features and asked staff to return with any implementation details (sign type, location and timeline) if Council approves the package.

The advisory board’s recommendation will be presented to City Council at the next appropriate meeting for formal adoption.
