Parks staff told the advisory board that bookings for pavilions, multipurpose fields and special events have risen sharply compared with last year, driven by recreation leagues, private events and the city’s new allowances for food trucks at events.
The staff member responsible for reservations described the seasonal allocation process (two seasonal allocation windows per year), confirmed that bookings for 2024 had already exceeded 2023 summer totals within the first two months, and explained that staff distributes field time to try to be fair across organizations. She said there is not a formal public wait list and that staff manually reviews and balances requests for field and pavilion time.
Separately, City Manager Michael Petty said he will ask the council to approve a parks & recreation director position in the 2025 staffing request to support growing programming needs as new facilities (baseball, multipurpose fields and other amenities) come online. Petty said that as the city’s parks and amenities expand, staff capacity for programming and events management will need to be increased.
The board discussed program management, potential training opportunities and whether the advisory board should host or attend educational sessions; staff offered to support member attendance at relevant conferences where budget allows.
The meeting closed with no further business and formal adjournment.
