Flowood aldermen approve multiple personnel hires, promotions and administrative items

The Flowood Mayor and Board of Aldermen approved a series of administrative and personnel actions in meetings on April 3 and April 17, 2017.
On April 3 the board approved a consent agenda that included routine claims dockets for municipal operations and a $36,125 payment to Benchmark Engineering & Surveying, LLC for water valve location and GIS mapping. The consent agenda also authorized the Police Department to declare certain old weapons from the evidence room as surplus and to trade them with a licensed gun dealer. The same meeting included approval of a Fire Department hire: Ryan Wheatley as Private 2 Step 1, and a Public Works hire: John Guy as Laborer 2 Step 1 in the Landscape Division. Aldermen also voted to accept the city's audited financial statements for fiscal year 2016.
At the April 17 meeting, the board again approved a consent agenda that included a resolution establishing City Hall as the polling place for the June 6, 2017 municipal election and accepted a Memorandum of Understanding between the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security/Task Force and the Flowood Fire Department. The board appointed Winifred Love and Martha Morris as the City of Flowood election commissioners and named Barbara Watkins as Deputy City Clerk.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Welborn presented three personnel recommendations at the April 17 meeting: hiring Clinton Sanford and Christopher Lemonis as Private 2 Step 1, and promoting Private Chris Hite to Lieutenant Step 5; the board approved each action. Garry Miller, Public Works Director, recommended hiring Joe Wooley and Ontario Smiley as Street Division Laborer 2 Step 1; the board approved those hires as well.
All motions recorded in the minutes were made, seconded, and approved unanimously by the board members present. The minutes do not record any roll-call vote tallies by name; the recorded outcome for each motion is unanimous approval by members present.
