Flowood aldermen approve patrol hire, Indian Creek Phase 4 plat and festival insurance

The Flowood Mayor and Board of Aldermen approved a set of routine but consequential municipal items at their April 2, 2018 regular meeting, including the hire of a patrol officer, final plat approval for Phase 4 of Indian Creek, and payment for weather insurance for an upcoming festival.
Police Chief Richie McCluskey recommended hiring James Westbrooks at Patrol Division Step 5. Alderman Dusty Rhoads moved to employ Westbrooks; Alderman Kathy Smith seconded the motion, which the board approved unanimously. The action places Westbrooks in the patrol step indicated by the department's recommendation.
City Engineer Paul Forster asked the board to approve the Final Plat for Phase 4 of the Indian Creek subdivision. Alderman Kathy Smith moved to approve the plat; Alderman Deron Harmon seconded, and the board approved the final plat without recorded opposition.
The board also approved the consent agenda, which consolidated multiple claims dockets and administrative items. The consent package included a $5,400 payment to Wellington Associates for a weather insurance policy for the Flowood Family Festival. The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alderman Don Flynt and seconded by Alderman Dusty Rhoads; minutes record unanimous approval by the members present.
City Clerk Joshua Carlisle presented the fiscal year 2017 audited financial statements and recommended acceptance. Alderman Deron Harmon moved to accept the audited financial statements; Alderman Dusty Rhoads seconded, and the board voted to accept the documents.
In other business the board heard an update associated with the Flowood Chamber of Commerce from Jennifer Anderson. Mayor Gary Rhoads noted that Southern Lifestyle Development has begun preselling lots at the Waterton development.
The meeting adjourned after these items were completed; the board recorded motions and votes as unanimous among members present.
