City Clerk-Treasurer Gretchen Lohrbach told the council that approximately 85 people attended National Night Out and thanked volunteers who prepared food for the event. She reported that a water leak at City Hall has been repaired and that a new furnace and air-conditioner have been installed.
Lohrbach updated the council that the city engineer and city attorney are working on an updated flood ordinance and that the Minnesota DNR has indicated little change for the city; the minutes state the city needs to be compliant by Sept. 26, 2024 and that the council plans to hold a public hearing on Sept. 9 to consider the ordinance. The minutes do not include ordinance text or detailed changes; the discussion focused on timing and procedural compliance.
Public Works Lead Joe Adams reported that the Decoration Committee is working with Will Giesen from CEDA on possible grants for decorations and said he will contact the county about making the four-way stop at Clay and 4th Street permanent. Adams also reported awaiting lower flows to re-line a leaking sewer pipe and noted a branch came down on wires during a recent windstorm.
Mayor Chuck Bradford said MnDOT expects to open the road to traffic this week; he announced a ribbon-cutting downtown on Sept. 4 at 1:30 p.m., noting invitations have been sent to media and several officials. The council discussed a banner request but concluded a banner cannot be installed at the permitted height. No votes were taken on these infrastructure items beyond routine reporting.
