Mantorville council approves street closures, fireworks plan for Marigold Days

Mayor Chuck Bradford called the Mantorville City Council meeting to order on Aug. 12, 2024, and the council approved requested street closures and park use for the upcoming Marigold Days celebration.

Will Lambert addressed the council with a detailed plan for Marigold Days, asking that Riverside Park and adjacent streets be used exclusively for festival activities, that a fireworks show take place on Goat Island at dusk on Saturday, Sept. 7, with a rain date of Sept. 8, and that multiple streets be closed or no-parking zones established for parade and event logistics. The requested closures included 4th Street from Hwy 57 to the alley west of Clay Street for Friday through Sunday and 5th Street from Hwy 57 to the alley west of Clay Street from Saturday midnight through Sunday evening for a car show and water fight; Clay Street closures were also specified for sections during the weekend.

The council voted to approve the closures and event logistics, with Councilmember Jeffrey Ingalls making the motion and Councilmember Lyle Hoaglund seconding; the motion carried 4-0. The city agreed to supply barricades and cones and to post no-parking signs along the parade route for the no-parking window on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The decision clears the way for planned community events but leaves operational details such as enforcement and exact sign placement with city staff. The council noted the schedule and rain-date contingency for the fireworks. The event organizers and affected residents were not required to return to council for additional action unless major changes are proposed.
