Auburn honors longtime volunteer Steve Galliard and hears Youth Commission annual report

The City of Auburn presented proclamations and community recognitions June 1, honoring longtime volunteer Steve Galliard and receiving the Auburn Youth Commission’s second‑year annual report.
Supervisor Cindy Gustafson presented commemorative coins marking Placer County’s 175th anniversary and thanked local leaders. "I'm Cindy Gustafson, District 5 supervisor, and I'm here tonight on behalf of our county CEO and all of our board of supervisors," she said, presenting coins to council members. Council members then read a resolution recognizing Steve Galliard's years of volunteer service on the planning commission, chamber and Rotary; Galliard accepted gifts and thanked the community.
The Youth Commission described outreach and service projects this year, including a youth‑focused booth at Downtown Spring Fest (with a jewelry exchange and voting for favorite businesses), student field trips to city departments and visits to the police and waste departments. Youth commissioners announced winners chosen by youth voters — including Auburn Bike Park and Auburn Gymnastics — and council noted applications for the 2026–27 Youth Commission open on the city website starting June 5 for students in grades 6–12.
Councilmembers praised the youth participants and encouraged applications and volunteer support for upcoming events and programs. The recognitions were ceremonial; no formal policy action resulted from the presentations.
