The Auburn City Council voted June 1 to approve the city’s proposed fiscal year 2026–27 budget and directed staff to return for final adoption on June 22.
Finance Director Gretchen Hoskins presented the proposed citywide budget of $33,456,954, highlighting a general fund of $18.7 million and an estimated one‑time shortfall this fiscal year of about $1.1 million tied to an urgent storm‑drain repair. "We do have a 1 time shortfall anticipated of about 1,100,000, and that's related to a 1 time storm drain repair. The plan is to use reserves for that," Hoskins said.
The presentation broke down revenues and pressures: personnel now accounts for about 66% of general fund expenditures, sales tax is the largest single general fund revenue, and several funds (airport, sewer) plan to use reserves for capital projects. The finance director noted outstanding variables — chiefly pending labor negotiations and sales‑tax projections — that will be reflected at the final budget hearing.
After discussion, a council member moved by resolution to approve the proposed budget as presented; the motion passed on roll call with council members voting in the affirmative. Staff will publish updated budget materials on the city’s transparency website and return on June 22 with final FY 2026–27 adoption paperwork.
