Council to welcome new student municipal representatives starting Sept. 9

Sarah Herring, the city’s community development administrator, briefed council committees on the 2025 student municipal representatives program and thanked council members for participating as mentors.
Herring said a class of seven students — Nora Awadallah, Mia Kares, Libby Hubert, Avery Carville, Sofia Mayottevic, Addison Dessone and Avery Masco — will alternate attendance at council meetings from September through May. Applications open Jan. 1 for students entering grades 10–12 and require an essay, attendance history and a selection of boards and commissions ranked by interest; students may check a box to indicate interest in mayor’s junior council/city council participation once they have completed at least one year in the program.
Herring asked council members to introduce themselves to the students, encourage questions and consider having students deliver a short student report at meetings. Committee members thanked staff and said they look forward to increased engagement.
