Design review board recommends Kleckner Park monument sign despite stone change

City staff told the Green City Design Review Board on May 7 that the suede limestone originally specified for the Kleckner Park monument sign is no longer available and proposed Chardonnay Limestone as the closest visual match; the board voted to send a favorable recommendation to planning and zoning.
Mike Elgin, speaking for the city, said his office learned late in the process that the suede limestone used at Central Park had been discontinued and that staff would bring samples to better match the existing element. “Welearned this late yesterday afternoon,” Elgin said, describing the proposed substitution and grout matching efforts.
Elgin also said the Kleckner Park sign would not be lit and that the landscaping design submitted for review mirrors the planting around the Central Park ID sign. After discussion, a board member moved a favorable recommendation to planning and zoning and the motion passed on roll call.
The board’s action is advisory; final installation will proceed after planning and zoning review and procurement of a stone sample that best matches the existing park signage.
