Commission recommends vacating unnamed alleys to allow property assemblage for development

The City of Green Planning and Zoning Commission on May 21 recommended that the city council approve a plat to vacate several unimproved alleys to enable SLW Development to assemble multiple parcels for redevelopment.
Brent Artman of SLW Development told the commission the alleys are unimproved, mostly grassed, and that vacating them would allow the company to consolidate an assemblage of parcels between Liberty Court and a nearby dry cleaner. Planning staff explained the vacated alley sections would be replaced with utility easements to preserve water, gas and electric services and said a consolidation plan will be required after council action to eliminate any landlocked parcels.
Staff reported no objections from property owners that will receive portions of the vacated alley and noted some utilities may be rerouted as part of a future site plan. A motion for a favorable recommendation to city council passed on roll call.
Next steps: the item will proceed to city council for final action; if council approves the vacation, SLW Development will need to submit the consolidation plan and site plans required for subsequent development and any utility relocations.
