Parks staff: bus garage bids under budget; Kleckner soft opening and pavilion proposal advance

Staff reported to the Parks and Recreation Board on April 2 that bids for the school bus garage and associated restroom to serve Koechner came in under budget; staff said they will meet next week to finalize timeline details.
"The good news is we're under budget," a staff speaker (S1) told the board when summarizing the bid results and the planned follow-up on schedule and timeline.
Staff also handed out flyers announcing Arbor Day on April 25 at 11 a.m., tied to the Willowdale Trail dedication; FirstEnergy will donate burr oaks and a sapling-planting program will add roughly 100 saplings near Bettler Park and Willowdale.
Kleckner Park will receive a soft-opening event for special-needs families to test the new field ahead of a fuller grand opening later in late spring or early summer coordinated with the Cal Ripken Foundation, staff said. The staff representative asked that the board plan to visit the community core facility in July or August ahead of the public opening on Aug. 22 and the grand opening on Nov. 15.
Under new business, a member of the Green Leadership Initiative class proposed building a pavilion at Kleckner Park. The proposal would use a construction company to oversee work and a PLCC building-trades class to provide much of the labor; fundraising through sponsorships and donor plaques is planned. Board members and staff said they will seek cost estimates, potential matching funds and more specifics before bringing the proposal back at a future meeting.
A board member also updated the board on Collector/Creek Farm field finishing work and scoreboard installation; staff said finishing touches, signage and landscaping remain before the field is opened for scheduled users.
The meeting adjourned without further formal capital decisions; the pavilion proposal and capital-budget parking expansion for Creekbaum were identified as items for follow-up.
