Mayor gave the council a range of updates during the July 22 meeting, including a federal‑level development on the city’s long‑running request for a unified ZIP code and local construction schedules.
The mayor said representatives added the City of Green to a congressional measure seeking to provide a unique ZIP code; he told council that the U.S. House voted to include the city on that list but that the measure still requires Senate approval. He said the administration will ask residents and businesses to help with outreach when the time comes.
The mayor reviewed recent and upcoming community events, noting FreedomFest on June 28 and a summer concert series (July 25 and Aug. 8) as well as an Aug. 2 free family movie night and the Artapalooza festival on Aug. 16. He also listed recent business openings and ribbon cuttings.
On infrastructure and public works, the mayor said:
- The Summit County engineer will close Mount Pleasant Road near Camp Wainoa for bridge repair beginning July 28 for an estimated 75 days; the city will post detour information on its website.
- Contractors began building a turn lane at the new Green Primary School entrance on Graybill Road the week of July 7; the mayor said the project is expected to finish before school starts.
- City‑permitted contractors are installing internet fiber in multiple neighborhoods; work is expected to continue through the remainder of the year, and the city has required door‑hanger notifications and major‑intersection signage with a contact number.
The mayor closed by announcing discounted resident memberships for the Corps available for purchase Aug. 1–Nov. 30 with benefits beginning Nov. 15 and running through Dec. 31, 2026, and said the corps grand opening is set for Nov. 15.
Separately, under new business the council president welcomed Shelly Goodrich as the city’s new finance director; Goodrich was present at the meeting.
