Flowood aldermen approve consent agenda including tax exemptions, contracts and personnel moves

The Flowood Board of Aldermen approved a wide-ranging consent agenda across its May 7 and May 21 meetings that included financial dockets, personnel actions, contracts, and several Ad Valorem tax exemptions.
Among items approved were acceptance of a $20,000 Mississippi Community Oriented Policing Grant (MCOPS) held by the Rankin County School District and a $27,910 contract with Stagelite Sound, LLC, to provide stage and equipment for the Flowood Family Festival. The board approved employment actions, including hiring Reggie Watts as a Street Division Laborer and promotions in the Fire Department: James Little to captain and Austin Wilson to lieutenant. On May 21 the board accepted Chief Richie McCluskey’s retirement effective May 31 and approved a resolution to permit the sale of his issued sidearm in compliance with Miss. Code Ann. §45-9-131 and appointed Assistant Chief Ricky McMillan as Interim Police Chief.
The board also approved multiple Ad Valorem tax-exemption applications and extensions for businesses including Gastrointestinal Associates, PA; Nucor Steel Jackson, Inc.; General Recycling of Mississippi LLC; and Rockett, Inc., each for five-year periods as recorded in the consent documentation. Contract modifications were approved for the Refuge Hotel and Conference Center CE&I contract with Pickering Firm, Inc., and for Hemphill Construction Company, Inc. on the Northeast Well and Liberty Road Well project. All consent items were approved by unanimous vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
