Metuchen council adopts package of ordinances to implement affordable-housing plan, wages and redevelopment

Mayor Bush summarized the affordable-housing measure, Ordinance 20-26-04, saying the ordinance replaces prior local provisions and adopts the state model ordinance prepared by the Association of Housing Professionals of New Jersey and reviewed by the Fair Share Housing Center and the borough's planning board. "This is what we're doing here, repealing the old ordinance from the old, previous rounds and adopting the brand new model ordinance," the presiding official said.
Council passed Ordinance 20-26-03 (setting minimum and maximum wage ranges for certain borough employees), Ordinance 20-26-04 (adopting the state model affordable-housing ordinance), Ordinance 20-26-05 (adopting a redevelopment plan for 12 and 16 Pearl Street) and Ordinance 20-26-06 (amending the redevelopment plan for the expanded Metuchen Arts District) on second reading by roll call votes; all motions carried.
The mayor noted the ordinances implement parts of the borough's housing element and fair-share plan covering the 2025'2035 period and mentioned specific properties (Pearl Street and 303 Amboy) listed in the plan as part of the borough's compliance strategy.
