The Board of Zoning Appeals granted two fence-height variances Thursday for a Hawthorne Court property at 4337 Evergreen Court, approving a 6-foot section of privacy fencing and 4-foot fencing elsewhere along the frontage where the code limits fence height to 3 feet.
Homeowner Richard Lewis told the board the house sits on a curve and effectively has two front yards; he said the homeowners association had approved the proposed layout. "The fencing is to keep, provide a place for [our dog] to go so we don't have to go walk him every day in the winter," Lewis said, adding the plan mixes 6-foot white vinyl privacy panels with 4-foot aluminum fencing and two 4-foot gates.
Board members noted similar fencing exists on nearby homes shown in the applicant’s packet and asked clarifying questions about transitions between 6-foot and 4-foot sections and gate widths. After discussion, the board voted to approve both variances in a single motion, recorded 3–0 in favor.
The approval permits the fencing configuration shown in the applicant’s packet; the transcript indicates the homeowners association’s written approval was submitted and entered into the record.
