Parks staff outlines 2025 summer concert lineup and community courts staffing plans

Parks staff told the Green City Parks and Recreation Board on Jan. 8 that the 2025 summer concert series is finalized and that the city is advancing staffing and preparations for the new community courts.
Director Wackercard (staff lead) said, "we have solidified, our summer concert series," listing dates and headliners: June 13 (an '80s Big Boogie night during the adult track-meet weekend), the weekend of June 27 for Freedom Fest (a Bon Jovi tribute), July 11 (dueling pianos), July 25 (a yacht-rock act) and Aug. 8 (a boy-band tribute). The office plans an Aug. 22 tailgate kickoff with local schools; staff named Sarah Otto as a returning sponsor.
On the community courts, Director Wackercard said the city completed interviews and will promote Zach Kaufman to supervisory duties with an official transition around Jan. 20. Opening remains targeted for October–November 2025; staff are coordinating with schools on security, scheduling and program policy. The current budgeted staffing includes a supervisor, one recreation programmer, three part-time recreation aides and two maintenance positions, though staff said hours and exact staffing mix may be adjusted after cross-training and initial operation.
Staff also updated the board that the bus garage project cleared City Council and design review requested changes; staff expect to return in February and hope to put the project out to bid in March. The board discussed picnic-table replacements at Betler Park (new lighter-weight tables for pavilions) and confirmed that wayfinding sign installation has begun and will be updated with the new trail additions.
Staff said they will circulate the ordinance text referenced in the meeting and will work with board members to schedule sports organizations to attend upcoming meetings.
