"This is what it looked like pretty much on day 1," he said, describing an 8‑inch collection pipe that ties the field's finger drains into the city storm system and noting crews have formed the concrete curve and poured sidewalks toward Thursby Road.
The presentation detailed a 24‑foot backstop (an 8‑foot chain‑link base topped by 16 feet of net) and the nailer boards that will anchor the synthetic turf. Mike said the field is being built with a sand infill to meet ADA mobility needs and explained maintenance expectations: "You've gotta groom the turf every now and again ... I would imagine your average turf is gonna get 10 years of use," he said, adding the ADA‑style field should outlast heavily used stadium turf.
Staff identified local contributions supporting the project, saying Alpine Landscaping (owner Tony Tarnikzikarski) donated landscaping and JMP Resources (Jason Prbonik) donated electrical work for a scoreboard. Mike also described a recent field‑day training at Greensburg Park Field 5, where the crew applied a Pro's Choice infill conditioner (Turface) to improve drainage and playability; he said the material cost for a field the size of 5 or 6 is about $1,200 in materials plus equipment costs.
The presentation concluded with a schedule update: staff expect to be near final grade and completing concrete work by mid‑December and are targeting an opening in April or May next year. Board members asked about lifecycle and broader rollout; staff said they hope to treat Field 6 next year and that most other fields are in good condition.
The board did not take a formal vote on the Kleckner update; staff encouraged residents or businesses interested in partnerships or donations to consult the city's website.
