Placentia council elects new mayor and mayor pro tem during Dec. 16 meeting

The Placentia City Council held nominations and elected new leadership during its Dec. 16 regular meeting.
Bob McKinnell opened nominations for mayor for the term 12/16/2025 through 12/15/2026. Council Member Ivanka was nominated, and with no other nominations the council closed nominations and recorded affirmative responses from the five council members present. The transcript records the council’s announcement that "Chad Vonka is elected" (transcript spelling varies). The mayor-elect took the oath of office immediately after the vote.
The council then opened nominations for mayor pro tem for the same term. Council Member Yamaguchi was nominated, seconded, and elected mayor pro tem by unanimous responses from the council members present; Yamaguchi took the oath of office and offered brief remarks about focusing on basics such as roads and city buildings.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the consent calendar by a roll-call vote recorded in the transcript as five yes votes. The council also recognized outgoing Mayor Kevin Kerwin for his service during 2025; speakers honoring Kerwin included representatives from the offices of State Senator Stephen Choi and Assemblymember Philip Chen and Orange County Fourth District Supervisor Doug Chaffee.
