Danbury formally introduces new planning director Waleed Al Baqri

The commission formally introduced Waleed Al Baqri as the new planning director for Danbury. Jenna Framinger said Al Baqri has been with the city about a month and brings a diverse background in planning and community development.
Al Baqri said he looks forward to working with commissioners and staff, encouraged commissioners to share ideas and suggested occasional workshops to discuss downtown zoning and other initiatives. He compared Danbury to parts of Middle Tennessee, noting the latter's recent rapid growth and the different planning contexts: "The main difference is...there's more land over there, so they tend to build outside with new subdivision," he said, adding that New England places greater emphasis on affordable housing and environmental protections.
Al Baqri invited individual questions and said he would provide contact information to commissioners for follow‑up. Commissioners thanked him and expressed willingness to cooperate on future initiatives and regulatory updates.
