Public Art Commission adopts strategic goals, approves FY26–27 priority list

The Tustin Public Art Commission voted June 17 to adopt a revised strategic goals summary for fiscal 2026–27 and approved a prioritized project list that puts the functional bench project at the top for the coming year.

Staff presented edits incorporated since the last meeting and asked the commission for final approval. Commissioner Polliwal moved to adopt the final draft of the strategic goals for 2026–27; the motion was seconded and approved on a voice vote. Staff said the revised goals reflect prior commissioner comments and minor wording changes to bullets across the document.

Commissioners then reviewed the public art priority list for 2026–27. Director Clanton explained staff updated the list to reflect work completed in 2025–26, to move the functional bench (Noble Winds bench project) to the top of the 26–27 list, retain the micro gallery as an item for future discussion, and advance the sculpture walk to an earlier priority. The commission moved to approve the updated project priority list and the motion passed by voice vote.

On the micro gallery, staff said they continue to seek partners (the school district partnership fell through) and are considering private or alternative sites; the physical micro gallery unit (donated by the Sam Oli Foundation) is in staff’s office while staff pursue curation partners. Commissioners emphasized keeping community engagement on the radar as plans advance.

The motions to adopt the strategic goals and approve the FY26–27 priority list passed by voice vote; staff will proceed with project planning and outreach for priority items and return to the commission with details as projects progress.
