Design board recommends new Hackensize Mulch sign and landscaping at 4590 Maslin Road

Hackensize Mulch presented plans for a new front-entrance sign and landscaping for a satellite facility at 4590 Maslin Road and received a favorable recommendation from the design review board.

The applicant described a double-sided hard-foam CNC sign mounted between cedar columns on a sandstone pedestal with the street number on both sides and an annual/perennial bed beneath. "It's going to be mounted to the top beam... it's gonna be sandwiched in the middle with wood," the applicant said, explaining a wood-sandwich mounting option he preferred over chain or metal.

Board members asked about fencing, gate location and truck access to ensure semis would not block the road. The applicant said the gate will remain open during operating hours and be used mainly at night, and confirmed the design includes split-rail fencing, cultured stone columns to match the building and selected trees and shrubs around the sign.

The board also asked about lighting and glare for passing drivers. The applicant said the sign lighting will be low-voltage landscape fixtures and that glare shields depicted in the packet could be installed to limit driver distraction.

Chair (speaker 1) moved and a board member seconded a motion to forward a favorable recommendation to planning. The roll call returned affirmative votes and the recommendation will move forward to the planning department for final permitting and signage review.

The design review packet notes that final mounting details and any additional civil comments should be provided with the permit submission.
