Cape Girardeau leaders celebrate new daily Contour flights; council accepts airport-adjacent deed

Mayor Kinder announced at the Dec. 1 city council meeting that Cape Girardeau now has daily flights to Chicago and Dallas–Fort Worth on Contour Airlines and held a ribbon-cutting at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport earlier that day.

"So starting today, we now have daily flights to both Chicago and DFW," Mayor Kinder said, noting the service will improve regional connectivity for travelers and business. She also referenced a fare sale and the carrier website, saying attendees could check flycgi.com for details.

Councilmembers said the service is expected to help families and local commerce. A councilmember said the added service will ease travel for residents with family in other cities and praised the airport advisory board's work in securing the connection. "So I'm really looking forward to my first flight out to Dallas, for sure," the councilmember said.

On the council docket, the body approved the first reading of Bill 25-118, an ordinance accepting a general warranty deed from the Pat Revocable Trust (dated 11/21/1994) for property adjacent to the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. Planning staff explained the city recently acquired two tracts from the trust for airport use and that the ordinance accepts the deed.

"The city recently acquired two tracts from the Pat Trust, adjacent to the airport for airport use," Mr. Shrimpton, a staff member speaking for the planning department, said in presenting the ordinance.

The council moved, seconded and voted to advance Bill 25-118 on its first reading; the motion carried. No public comments were made during the presentation of this ordinance.

Procedural note: the airport service announcement was made as part of communications and reports; the deed acceptance proceeded as a first reading of an ordinance and will return for subsequent readings as required by the city code.
