Clarkson Valley holds public hearing on adopting 2024 building codes, schedules further review

City leaders on March 3 opened a public hearing to consider adopting updated building and construction codes, including the 2024 International Building Code, 2024 International Residential Code and related model codes and amendments.
City Administrator/City Clerk Megan Eldridge read the public hearing notice and Building Commissioner Paul Mercurio provided an overview of the code-adoption process and the proposed amendments. Mayor Sue McNamara suggested scheduling a work session because of the volume of material the Board would need to review.
During the hearing resident Frances Babb urged that regulations for photovoltaic systems focus on safety and that aesthetic restrictions be handled in zoning rather than the building code. The Board also discussed making code books available for public inspection and preserving a public comment period as the code review proceeds. Bill No. 0589, proposing updates to Title V (Building and Construction) by replacing Sections 500.010 and 500.020, received its first reading; no final vote was taken at the March 3 meeting.
The Board directed staff and the Planning & Zoning Commission to continue review and scheduled further consideration via work session to allow the Board to examine proposed text and public comments before any final vote.
