Chaffee council approves multiple building permits, a liquor license and bills; appoints Housing Board resident

The Chaffee City Council on Nov. 18 approved several building permits (one over a single dissent), granted a liquor license to Dollar General #1197, paid routine bills including a $1,978.34 MFA Oil invoice, accepted a 2025 HIC insurance renewal, appointed Mary Herron to the Housing Board and tabled an intergovernmental agreement for legal review.
At its Nov. 18 regular meeting the Chaffee City Council handled a slate of routine development, licensing and financial matters.
The council approved a building permit for Zac Horman (11670 St. Hwy 77) after Mark Perkins moved and Steve Milz seconded the motion; Council Member Andy Sadler recorded opposition but the motion carried by majority. Permits for Nicholas Crump to add a portable building at 416 Wright and for Eddie and Jenelyn Martin to build at 320 E. Davidson were also approved without recorded opposition.
A package liquor license for Dollar General #1197 at 12161 St. Hwy 77 was presented and approved after a motion by Eric Seyer and a second by Steve Milz. The City Clerk presented an MFA Oil bill for $1,978.34; Eric Seyer moved to pay the bill, Andy Sadder seconded and the council voted to pay it. The council also approved its monthly bills and accepted a proposed 2025 employee health insurance renewal from HIC following a presentation by the city administrator.
The mayor relayed a request from Tina Berghoff to appoint Mary Herron as the resident member of the Housing Board; Eric Seyer moved to appoint Herron and Andy Sadder seconded. The appointment was approved unanimously by members present.
On an intergovernmental agreement concerning Chaffee's share of Scott County's law enforcement sales tax, the council voted to table the proposal and refer it to the city attorney for review after discussion; Mark Perkins moved to table and Andy Sadder seconded.
Council members raised a handful of local concerns before adjourning, including sightline hazards from trees near St. Ambrose Church and road roughness at Elliott and 5th Street. Andy Sadder and Steve Milz asked for a status update on nuisance complaints and suggested the Nuisance Officer, Tim Cannon, attend a future meeting to respond.
