Chaffee City Council approves modest water and sewer rate increases

The Chaffee City Council voted Nov. 18 to raise local water and sewer fees and to add an ongoing annual increment to rates.
City Administrator Lee Horton presented proposed adjustments to utility charges and Council Member Eric Seyer moved to "increase the current base water rate by $.05, increase the current base sewer rate by $0.10, and to have an ongoing yearly increase of $0.05. The current out of city limit water service rate will increase from $10.00 to $15.00." Andy Sadler seconded the motion, and all five council members present voted in favor.
The changes mean the base water rate will rise by five cents and the base sewer rate by 10 cents; an additional $0.05 annual increase was approved to recur year-over-year. The out-of-city water service fee will increase from $10 to $15, a change the council said is intended to better align fees for customers outside municipal limits.
Council members discussed the proposal after the presentation from the city administrator but did not record an effective date or implementation schedule in the minutes. The motion carried with all present voting in favor; the minutes do not specify when the new rates will take effect or whether notice to customers will be required.
