Maumelle council unanimously adopts annexation and matching land-use and zoning changes for Clawson/Colson Point

The Maumelle City Council on July 6 adopted three related ordinances to bring the Clawson Pointe addition into the city and to update land-use and zoning designations for the Colson Point addition.
At third reading the council adopted Ordinance 11-78, accepting annexation of land commonly known as the Clawson Pointe addition and assigning the property to Ward 4. The council also adopted Ordinance 11-80, amending the Maumelle land use plan and map for the Colson Point addition, and Ordinance 11-79, amending the zoning map for the Colson Point addition. Each ordinance was read by title, a motion and second were recorded, the city clerk called the roll, and each ordinance passed by affirmative roll-call vote.
The clerk recorded council members present and voting in sequence. The roll call lists the following council members as voting in favor: Wesley; Granwal (transcript spelling varies across the meeting); Booker; Gardner; Williams; Tierney; Shin; and Holt. The mayor announced each ordinance as adopted following the roll call.
Council discussion on the three items was minimal; after reading the titles the council moved directly to votes. During council-member comments later in the meeting, Council member Gardner asked whether the land across the interstate to support a White Oak Crossing connection is currently inside city limits and whether the city should require an annexation agreement before committing funds; the mayor said annexation or an agreement would be prudent and that he would strongly advocate securing annexation before spending city dollars on the interchange.
The ordinances take effect per the city’s normal procedures; no implementation timeline or budget appropriation related to these ordinances was discussed at the July 6 meeting.
