Resident Nathan Krantz (31022 Via Cristal) said he was involved in a crash exiting onto Ortega and reported 34 collisions over 26 years in the area, seven involving injuries. He told the council that navigation apps and regional traffic increases tied to Ortega Highway work have brought more vehicles onto local streets. "So I have firsthand experience of how difficult it is, to enter and exit Ortega," Krantz said.
Another long‑term resident who lives at 30982 Via Cristal described repeated driveway blockages, speeding, and a recent robbery that left the household shaken. The residents asked the council and staff to meet with them and explore mitigations such as extending sound walls, restricting vehicle access, and evaluating emergency‑service access.
City staff said Via Cristal is a residential collector that connects to Ortega Highway (a state highway) and that any physical change would require coordination with Caltrans and a formal traffic engineering study. The City Manager offered to have staff follow up with Mr. Krantz and to discuss findings with the engineering team.
