South Summit COG treasurer Stephen Schmidt to retire; board approves 3% raise for dispatch manager

Stephen Schmidt, finance director for the City of Green and treasurer for the South Summit COG, announced he will retire from the City of Green effective July 3 and plans to resign as COG treasurer at the June board meeting. Schmidt said his department is working to transition responsibilities to an incoming finance director, who will need executive-board ratification to assume the treasurer role.
Board members thanked Schmidt for his years of service and praised his institutional knowledge and steady leadership during the COG’s formation. Following that tribute, the chair moved to adjourn into an executive session to consider public-employee compensation; the board approved the motion by roll call and invited two chiefs to join the session.
After returning to open session, the board considered a personnel recommendation to grant the dispatch manager a 3% wage increase effective the anniversary date of 03/13/2024. The motion, presented on behalf of the board, noted the annual cost of the increase would total just under $2,800. The board voted by roll call to approve the 3% raise.
What happens next: Schmidt said a transition plan is under way and his successor will be presented to the executive board for ratification at the June meeting. The pay increase takes effect retroactively to the dispatch manager’s anniversary date as recorded in the motion.
