Coventry Fire to move operations; COG orders radio logger and awaits AI pilot agreement

Hayman said Coventry Fire has agreed to move to the SECC with a target date of April 1. She noted the primary operational obstacle is transferring phone lines and that the departure reduces contract revenue by about $80,000 compared with prior projections. Hayman said Coventry’s call volume is roughly comparable to New Franklin Fire — “around 2,300 a year” — and that the COG’s existing staffing model (15 full-time, five part-time) will likely remain unchanged in the short term.
On equipment, Hayman said the county agreement for a radio/phone logger has been signed, the order for the logging equipment has been placed, and staff expect delivery by the end of the month with an operational target in April. She also said the COG indicated its intent to be part of a county AI call-taking pilot with a $10,000 contribution; the county has not yet issued the agreement and the COG is waiting for next steps.
Hayman told the board the labor agreement covering dispatchers runs through June 30 and negotiations are underway, with a letter of intent to negotiate already submitted.
What this means: The Coventry departure reduces projected contract revenue and will be absorbed in part by the current fund carryover, the board said; the logger order and the decision to explore AI are aimed at modernizing operations pending county approvals.
