The Weatherford Municipal Utility Board discussed an electrical outage that interrupted power to 8,074 customer meters and heard details on the city's response.
Mayor (role label) said the outage interrupted 8,074 meters and that service to those units was restored in 152 minutes. "That is amazing data that we recovered that fast," the Mayor said, and the board thanked staff and customers for their patience.
Assistant City Manager Chad Marbutt said public works, police and fire were mobilized during the event and that the water department and wastewater operations had to redirect and temporarily operate infrastructure without power. "Just the work that they did to coordinate with Brazos Electric for substations to get everything back on in that short period of time," Marbutt said, "it's just amazing to see this teamwork." He named engineering and electrical staff, including James McGill, as part of the response team.
Marbutt and the Mayor said crews patched signal and street-light outages, monitored lift stations and the wastewater plant, and prioritized restoring power to critical infrastructure. The Mayor said the city will analyze the event to identify lessons and opportunities to improve response times.
No formal action was taken; the discussion concluded with the board thanking staff for extended hours and coordination during the outage. The utility board proceeded with its regular agenda items.
