Chaffee council approves routine bills, raises residential trash rate to $17.50

The Chaffee City Council on Sept. 16 approved a series of routine motions and a residential trash-rate increase the city said is needed to offset higher costs under a new Republic contract.
Mayor Steve Loucks opened the regular meeting. The council approved the minutes of its previous meeting after Danny Finley moved for approval with corrections and Steve Milz seconded; the motion carried on an "all in favor" vote. The council also approved payment of the monthly bills and accepted the Collector's Report for August 2024.
Council members voted to approve specific invoices including an MFA Oil bill for $2,079.79; Ron Davis moved to pay that bill and Steve Milz seconded. Andy Sadler moved, and Ron Davis seconded, a separate motion to pay the remaining monthly bills; both motions passed with the council polled "all in favor."
On an item tied to parks and youth sports, the council approved a $1,000 purchase for Youth League basketball jerseys. Council member Andy Sadler moved the purchase and Ryan Pobst seconded; the vote was "all in favor."
The council approved building permits presented for work by Kayleigh Halbert (addition at 502 S. Third), Donnie Kiefer (new garage at 105 Gateway Lane) and Cathy Miller (building at 518 S. Main); Danny Finley moved and Andy Sadder seconded those approvals.
The City Administrator asked the council to increase the residential trash rate from $16.50 to $17.50 to help cover increased costs under the new Republic contract. Eric Seyer moved the rate change, Danny Finley seconded, and the council voted "all in favor." The motion carried.
The meeting adjourned with the mayor and City Clerk Barbara K. Doan signing the minutes; the minutes note they have not yet been formally approved as the official record.
