Paulding County schools report modest revenue variance, set ribbon-cutting for new Crossroads Elementary

Anna Durham, the district's chief financial officer, presented highlights from the May financial update, telling the board that with 91.7% of the fiscal year lapsed the year-to-date revenue variance to budget is 3%, "our current year is 0.8% compared to 2.4% in prior year," and that "our unassigned fund balance could support 1.9 months of our fiscal year 26 budgeted expenditures." Durham said the full update, including statements of revenues, expenditures and encumbrances, is on the district website and that the next quarterly report will appear in August.
Superintendent Barnett used his report to remind families that district open houses are set for Thursday, July 30 (elementary 2—6 p.m.; middle and high schools 4—8 p.m.), and announced the district's 20th elementary school, Crossroads Elementary, is a 100,000-square-foot, two-story facility with 54 classrooms designed to serve up to 850 students. Barnett said the ribbon-cutting will be held Friday, July 24 at 9 a.m., followed by guided tours.
Barnett also highlighted community partnership work, recognizing the Hiram Texas Roadhouse for recurring support through spirit nights, fundraising, catering and donations. The district presented the restaurant with a "partner in education" sign. Barnett thanked Paulding Family Connection and donors for the district's backpack program, which has enrolled about 900 students this year and will hold a supply drop-off event on Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The financial figures described by Durham indicate modest year-to-date revenue variance but a limited unassigned fund balance in months of coverage; district leaders did not propose immediate budget cuts at the meeting. The procurement presentation for the Austin Middle School CMAR selection (RK Redding Construction) was described as a committee selection; that contract's guaranteed maximum price will return to the board for approval at a later meeting.
Next steps: the board's next regular business meeting is scheduled for July 21 at 5:30 p.m. at district offices, where staff expect to return procurement documents and other agenda items as needed.
