Johns Creek council approves $4.15 million intersection contract; manager announces $3 million GDOT grant

The consent-package construction items included a $4,154,295 contract with Summit Construction and Development, a CEI task order with Atlas for $128,200, and a 10% construction contingency for the project. The clerk also noted an intergovernmental agreement update with Fulton County for the Douglas Road intersection projects and a resolution to renew the CHATCOM intergovernmental agreement with Sandy Springs.
Council member discussion was limited but supportive. One council member called the intersection project "exactly what, I'd say the Zeitgeist of Council is, improve traffic, flow, improve safety," and praised innovative design and staff work on fee adjustments. The Mayor Pro Tem moved to approve the consent agenda; the council voted to approve it.
During the manager's report, City Manager Greer highlighted public safety and development updates and noted that staff had secured a $3,000,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation toward future replacement of two bridges on Old Alabama Road, and that the award would be formalized in the regional transportation improvement plan. "Any month that we bring home a $3,000,000 grant is worth a highlight to you guys," Greer said.
