Newell — Corn Belt Telephone provided the Newell City Council an update on a planned fiber internet and telephone build, estimating the construction period in town at approximately six months, weather permitting, and encouraging residents to sign up online now.
Wuebker of Corn Belt Telephone said pre-signups allow contractors to run service drops to homes while installing the main fiber line and that the company’s affiliate offers grants and community support. An open house for Q&A, signups and service education is planned for the week of the 20th; the company also offered community sponsorships such as golf-tournament sponsorship and participation in Watermelon Days.
Public Works Director Doug Lange and Wuebker discussed construction coordination: contractors will notify Public Works where they plan to start so locates can be completed prior to excavation. Wuebker said residents or staff can call him directly with complaints or cleanup issues.
The council did not vote on the project; the presentation was informational and meant to encourage resident signups and to ensure coordination on locates and schedules.
