Briarcliffe Acres council workshop advances beautification plans, schedules Swash rechanneling and infrastructure work

Briarcliffe Acres — At a council workshop on Oct. 6, Mayor Dave Buonviri and other council members outlined a series of near-term maintenance and beautification projects and identified administrative steps on planning and public-safety agreements.
Mayor Dave Buonviri said he will contact Diamond Shores to schedule an open house for residents to view Phase I of the town's Right of Way survey maps and will arrange repairs and painting for the Gates entrance walls as part of the town's beautification effort. "Rechanneling of the Swash is set for the first week of November, weather and tide permitting," Buonviri said.
Mayor Pro Tempore Peggy Bell said she will repaint entrance signs and coordinate with Vereen Tree Service to remove old plantings and prepare new soil, flowers, trees and shrubs. Councilwoman Laura Pendley described additional beautification steps, including strategic new plantings, fall wreaths on street posts and a plan to consider adding curbing to entrances next year.
Councilman Brian McIntyre said he will work with contractor Coastal Asphalt to schedule road repairs. Councilman Brian Palliser reported an access problem caused by downed trees in the lake behind Pine Tree Lane and said he is working on a solution.
Pendley also said she is handling the town's Co-Pilot software licenses and a planned computer upgrade. Chief of Police Kyle Lamparter raised the need to renew the Law Enforcement Network mutual-aid agreement so the town remains connected to regional law-enforcement support.
Town Clerk Jennifer Newbold said she had received a Fire Wise renewal notice and will complete the town's recertification by the deadline. Newbold also said she will administer a Planning Commission meeting following the workshop; the commission is expected to adopt a resolution recommending the 2025 Comprehensive Plan Update to the council.
Buonviri announced a temporary hold on the Dorothy Green update and did not provide further detail during the workshop. No public input was received, and the workshop adjourned at 5:31 p.m.
The council did not take formal votes or adopt ordinances during the workshop; several items were assigned to staff and members for follow-up, including setting the Right of Way open house date, scheduling road repairs and pursuing required renewals and licenses.
