Hasbrouck Heights advances park and road projects, files grant applications

The 2025 municipal road program is underway with proposed work on Burton Avenue and Oak Grove Avenue. The Kipp Avenue NJDOT-funded project is ongoing; underground utility discrepancies discovered last fall required exploratory work and the contractor has completed exploratory drilling to identify utility depths so remobilization can be scheduled.
Water/sewer coordination: Cleveland Avenue curbing and drainage improvements are complete and milling/paving will proceed after Veolia finishes watermain upgrades (preconstruction meeting held; work expected to span about six weeks once started).
Parks and grants: The borough submitted applications to the NJ DCA Local Recreation Improvement Grant for Miers/Meirs Park (playground/pickleball scope) and to Bergen County for park repurpose funds; Neglia noted prior grant awards including a DCA award of $68,000 for Woodland Park drainage work and a Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund match of $121,000 for Woodland Park basketball-court improvements. A preconstruction meeting was held for the Miers Park (pickleball) change and mobilization was noted.
Other items: Neglia confirmed submission of the MS4 GIS stormwater infrastructure mapping to NJDEP (final review underway) and reported the DPW salt-shed bid previously exceeded appropriations and was rejected; conceptual planning for a new DPW facility continues and a federal/resiliency grant application was mentioned.
Funding notes listed in the engineer’s report included a 2024 Bergen County CDBG award ($135,000), a FY2024 NJDOT Municipal Aid award ($249,252), and identified grant awards and applications supporting park and drainage projects.
What’s next: Project-specific timing depends on contractor remobilization and Veolia's watermain work schedule; grant-application outcomes will determine scope and scheduling for several park improvements.
