The borough engineer reported that ADA ramps on Central Avenue have been completed and that the next step is for the county to install crosswalk striping and warning signs. He said he will reach out to the county to move that process forward. Council members raised concerns about incomplete ramp/striping work near the Exxon/DeWolf intersection, a location used for school drop-off where children cross the street; the council discussed whether schools should relocate pickup points and asked staff to press the county and the contractor.
Members also discussed ongoing problems with the paving/painting contractor DLS, which missed contracted ramp work on the borough’s paving schedule, leaving some ramps and striping incomplete. The engineer said the borough is responsible for sidewalk work beyond the county’s face-of-curb responsibility and that staff will coordinate implementation and costs with the county.
The council asked the engineer to follow up with the county and report back at the next meeting so the borough can either secure county action or consider alternative steps to improve pedestrian safety at key crossings.
