Parks & Recreation reports progress on pickleball courts, boat ramp design and dock repairs

Edgewater Parks & Recreation staff reported several near-term and planned projects at the advisory board’s July 1 meeting, including completion of a first phase of pickleball courts, design work for a boat ramp and upcoming FEMA-related repairs to Menard Dock.
The parks official updated the board that pickleball courts now have fences, lighting and court surfaces in place and that parking remains the last item for the phase. The Whaler Way site is under design consideration for ramps, restrooms and parking; staff said they are working with partners and property constraints as they finalize the plan. Menard Dock FEMA repairs have progressed to a stage where bids will be solicited soon.
Staff also described work on the Butterfly Garden with the New Smyrna Beach Garden Club, installation of gates at park entrances for event and emergency control, and plans to develop public art — including a mural proposal and possible collaborations with local schools and artists. Members discussed funding for murals and options for student involvement and sponsorships.
Parks staff asked for direction on timing and suggested aiming for cooler months for larger projects such as murals. The department said it will present more-specific cost estimates and sample mural concepts at a future board meeting.
