Advisory board recommends Teresa Huebner for seat, asks council to consider adding a member

The Edgewater Parks & Recreation advisory board voted to recommend Teresa Huebner to fill a current vacancy and asked city council to consider expanding the board’s membership.

At the board’s July 1 meeting a member moved “to appoint Teresa Huebner,” citing her long record of volunteering and regular attendance; another member seconded the motion and the board approved the recommendation. The board also voted to forward a request to city council to explore amending the bylaws to allow an additional seat so the advisory body could have a minimum of five and a maximum of six or seven members, with quorum remaining at three.

Board members said the proposal responds to repeated quorum problems and an increased number of applicants. One member noted Teresa submitted her application in April 2024 and had recently resigned from planning and zoning to be eligible for appointment. Another member suggested presenting the council with the rationale that the board now has more community demand and needs flexibility to maintain meetings and events.

The board approved both procedural steps during New Business: recommending Huebner for the vacancy, and passing a motion to ask city council to consider an expansion. Those council-level changes would be subject to council approval and any required bylaw amendments.

The advisory board said staff will prepare the materials to send to council and expects to know whether council will act before the board’s next scheduled meeting in September.
